National Program GOOD News for Local Organisations

In a time of financial uncertainty, The Good Guys National Cause Program has reached $1.5 million in donations to grassroots community projects and that’s good news for local recipients.

With this milestone comes affirmation that the Cause Program legacy will continue regardless of the economic climate ensuring community organisations, like Canteen and the Cootharinga Society of North QLD, get the vital support they need to keep doing good.

At a time when budgets are tight, not for profit organisations may find themselves unsuspecting victims of the financial crisis as donations from households and the business community become harder to spare.

Mandy MacDonald, Marketing and Public Relations Manager for Cootharinga, suggests though that it is not all doom and gloom ahead. “Times are tough but our commitment to providing quality support for people living with disabilities within the Townsville region will remain strong.” She adds, “The Good Guys National Cause Program has been a real plus for us. Financial support of any nature is not only generous but essential for ensuring we can continue to deliver quality services to the community”.

Local businessman Troy Williams, proprietor of The Good Guys Townsville, has been an enthusiastic supporter of the Cootharinga Society of North Queensland and Canteen as part of the national program. Since commencement of the partnerships in March 2007, the Townsville store has raised over $24 000 for nominated program Cause Partners.

“It’s a rewarding moment each month when we accumulate our donations.”

“We are more committed than ever before to ensure that both of our program partners receive all the support they need to carry out these invaluable services to our community in the upcoming year,” said Troy.

“Our local giving program is simple. For every purchase customers make in our store, we will make a donation to these not-for-profit organisations. Customers are also welcome to make donations in-store.”

The Good Guys National Cause Program is run in partnership with United Way, a not-for-profit organisation working towards connecting businesses with charities for the greater benefit of local communities.
