Walk with me and the Inclusive Communities Festival

Inclusive Communities Festival

 

The Inclusive Communities Festival has been organised by a number of disability support agencies across Townsville and was  held on Friday 23 September 2011.  The festival was a part of activities held in conjunction with Queensland Government’s - Disability Action Week.

The aim of the festival is to promote positive attitudes towards people with a disability and encourage their inclusion within the community, therefore making our community a better place for everyone.  In accordance with the festival aim all community members are welcome to attend.

A program of festival events was organised and  included performances on centre stage by the Full Moon Drumming Circle, Happy Feat dance troupe and a local band “Two Steps From Home”.  These acts were supported by hands on activities, art displays and market stalls throughout the festival site. Activities also included a  wheelchair basketball, hula hooping, yoga, wheelchair bocce as well as the Salvation Army - Oasis Youth Connection+ bus.

Festival ambassadors were sought from our local community and are people who live life to the fullest and embrace an inclusive community for Townsville!

Walk With Me is a  Dynamic fundraising event and sponsored walk with a powerful message, promoting inclusion and the breaking down of barriers in the community.  WWM washeld in Townsville, Cairns and Mackay.  In Townsville the Event took place on the Strand followed by Disability Action Week celebrations.
